National Choir and Orchestra of Latvia

In May 2022, I worked as a conductor for just over a week on two huge compositions by Bernard Benoliel with the National Choir and the National Orchestra of Latvia. On the program his symphony for large orchestra and his requiem for two choirs and large orchestra (including a.o. 15 timpani and 18 violas!). After a very successful concert, we made a CD recording of both works. This CD is about to be released. More about this when the release date is known.

I am pleased to have been invited to conduct this fantastic orchestra again next season!

International Masterclass Conducting Technique

Since the previous newsletter there have been three new episodes of my masterclass in the Ardennes: one in the summer of 2022, one in the winter of 2023 and the last one was two months ago. For a report of this edition, click on  this link. Conductors from all over the world now know where to find this unique course. Since the first course in the summer of 2020, more than 40 different conductors with 18 different nationalities have attended the course. On the picture, you see all the whole team of the latest, 7th edition.

University of Arts, Bremen

I have led some particularly interesting projects at the University of Arts in Bremen over the past year. For example, there was a portrait concert of the famous composer Iannis Xenakis by the ensemble ANM in collaboration with the “oh-Ton Ensemble” from Oldenburg. Like every year, there were also various concerts in which compositions by composition students were performed. In the concert series “Was schreiben die Nachbarn?” I conducted a concert with works by Danish and a concert with Swiss composers and next month, on November 14, I will conduct works by Webern, Stravinsky, Stockhausen, Yun and Cage. So many new and fantastic compositions!

Ensemble New Babylon

I went on tour with the German Ensemble New Babylon with concerts in Fulda and Bremen. A collaboration between visual artist Franz Erhard Walther and composer Michael Quell led to a very special performance!
